Hooray!
The 2010 Orara Valley Fair is finally on its way for the Queen's Birthday public holiday Monday, June 14.
The Fair will take over the Upper Orara Recreation Reserve on Dairyville Road from 10am to 4pm on June 14, with plenty of free parking and lots to do and see.
There will be live entertainment, children's games and rides, displays, activities, stalls, food and drink, but no alcohol, unless you BYO.
Woodchopping will again be a feature of the Fair as the big blokes make the chips fly with tree-felling, standing block and underhand competitions
The old machines of the Karangi Vintage Farm Machinery Museum will show how earlier farmers cracked corn, chopped chaff, sawed firewood and milked cows.
Help Needed
With a new and enthusiastic committee in place, there is lots to do and not that much time to do it, before the Fair is upon us once again.
If you have some time to spare to help us get ready for the biggest day of the year at Upper Orara, please put your hand up now- pick up the phone or send an email.
We need help with jobs before the day; on the set-up weekend; on the day and with the pull-down and clean-up tasks.
(And thank you to Dave Mowbray and Brian Burn, who have already put their hands up!)
The Fair is particularly in need of a Treasurer.
Ahead of the Fair, this task consists of receiving and banking stallholders' fees and sponsors' cheques as they are received and paying cheques for expenses like insurance, advertising and toilet hire.
The Fair itself is the Treasurer's busiest day, as he or she receives entry fees, pays out prizes and provides change for the Fair's own rides and events as well as entry gates.
Post the Fair, proceeds from various activities must be accounted for, final expenses paid and the annual financial statement prepared.
There are lots of other jobs, from putting up posters to driving tractors and from banging in star pickets to marketing out stall sites.
